This is our Ikigai. For those no familiar with the team, ikigai (ee-key-guy) is a Japanese concept that combines the terms iki, meaning “alive” or “life,” and gai, meaning “benefit” or “worth.” When combined, these terms mean that which gives your life worth, meaning, or purpose. People can go their whole life and not find their ikagai, so it is humbling to know that we have found ours. Loosely, ikigai, is made up of four different philosophical perspectives that overlap, those being, that you love or have a deep passion for something, that the world
needs it, that you are great at it and ultimately you can be paid for it.
The team behind Bike Matrix live and breath bikes, and even more so love the complexity of creating a bicycle parts compatibility solution. Each member of our team is the best at what they do and bring a unique skillset to the team. After having hundreds conversations with riders and industry professionals we are certain that the world both needs and is crying out for this solution. The final piece of the puzzle comes the biggest risk for all new companies, can we survive doing what we love? As a team we are about to turn a corner and we will be bringing this solution to life in the coming months.
For us, our work needs to have meaning. Working on, with and in an area of passion gives our work deep meaning. Having autonomy and ownership leads to working creatively and thinking differently, while having responsibility and accountability add to our sense of value within a team. Collaboration is an important tool to us and gaining different views and perspectives is part of our values relating to questioning the norm and being better together. We value relationships, both internal and external, and value creating a workplace that is inviting, nurturing, challenging and inspiring. As a team we share a passion for solving the compatibility confusion faced by so many potential customers and empowering them to take control of the repairs and maintenance of their bikes. We have a desire to challenge the norm and question if there’s a new trail to be blazed. We like to ask why and don’t just agree to do things as they have always been done preferring to find ways to improve the status quo.
We are currently deep into building a solution to this massive problem and making great headway and we are very grateful for the support we have received from amazing manufacturers, including, Canyon, Shimano, DT Swiss, Chris King, Spank Industries, MRP, Box Components, PNW, DVO Suspension, Enve Composites, Classified Cycling, North Shore Billet, TRP/Tektro, KMC, ODI, Ergon, fi’zi:k, Wolftooth, Crankbrothers, Blackspire, Redshift, Acros, L-Twoo, BikeYoke, Funn, Cush-Core and Goodyear, who have all assisted us in this journey so far.
But stay tuned in the coming months, as change is coming!
